The Sustainable Director at PRAXIS 2025
Speaking at PRAXIS 2025 – Directors on Directing
I am pleased to be participating in PRAXIS 2025, Iceland University of the Arts’ Performing Arts Symposium, taking place on March 29th, 2025. The symposium serves as a platform for artistic exchange, experimentation, and dialogue between the performing arts scene and academia. This year’s theme, Directors on Directing – What / How / Why, explores the evolving role of the director in contemporary performance.
My talk, “The Sustainable Director – Considering Existential Sustainability in the Performing Arts”, examines the role of the director through the lens of existential sustainability in creative processes. Drawing from my artistic research How Little Is Enough?, I will explore how directing can be reimagined to foster balance between artistic, social, and personal dimensions, while also addressing power structures, ethical responsibility, and collaborative models in performance-making.
I look forward to engaging in this important discussion and connecting with fellow artists and researchers. Stay tuned for insights from the symposium!
